Help with housing and health

When we first met, I was in a tough spot. I’m living in a hotel, feeling really down. My child has special needs, ADHD, and a learning disability. On top of that, I was dealing with my own health issues. It was a challenging time. Honestly, I felt overwhelmed. I was worried about my child’s well-being, struggling with my own health, and had very little money to get by. I didn’t know where to turn or if anyone could help me.

I heard about Brushstrokes and decided to seek help. I knew I needed support for both myself and my child who has health issues. My main goal was stability. I wanted a better life for both of us. I needed a stable place to live, emotional support, and resources to address our needs. Brushstrokes are providing me with housing support, supporting me to find a stable place to live. They are providing me with counselling which is addressing my emotional well-being and assisting with my child’s educational needs. They are also providing financial advice helping me to manage my limited resources and assisting me applying for the correct benefits.

I’m relieved that Naz at Brushstrokes understood my situation about my health worries and my sons health concerns, I’m getting the right support and extra money has helped with my sons needs and has made my life a little financially easier. Brushstrokes made a huge difference. . I’ve gained a lot. It has improved my mental health, reducing the anxiety and depression I was feeling as a result of cost of living. I feel empowered and have been learning to address challenges, and I’ve increased my financial stability now being able to managing my financial resources better. I feel I’ve also gained independency, by becoming active within the community. I want to keep building a stable life for us and I can do more affordable activities for my sons well-being with the extra money we are receiving through DLA. I also plan to give back by volunteering some day with Brushstrokes. They’ve been amazing.

“The support was life-changing. The practical assistance and emotional encouragement made all the difference. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness and dedication changed our lives”.

Delivery Partners

Wider determinants of health (WDH) are a range of social, environmental and economic factors which impact directly on the health (physical and mental) of the population. We have been working in partnership with the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) to identify how best to address some of the wider determinants of health, and how they impact on the wellbeing of our local residents. We are pleased to be delivering services which address some of these wider determinants of health and that help to support people who are in need.
