Letting go of guilt

I needed to gain more knowledge of what has been going on with me. I had support around my childhood trauma, with my counsellor. I also had support around what is currently going on with me, as I have SPD and I am pregnant. I am currently having to use a wheel chair and am using crutches. So my support was split into two.

I wanted to gain more tools to help me through situations when my anxiety was high… I wanted to be more equipped for the bad days.

I think I needed to get things off my chest, to talk openly and honesty about what had happened to me. I didn’t want to feel guilty anymore about what had happened to me. I’ve learnt some CBT techniques. I feel more calmer and in control, feeling less like a bad person for setting boundaries.I feel empowered that I can now do these things.

The support has been able to educate me, it’s given me a space to have someone listen to me, who was understanding and supportive. I will continue to practice my CBT techniques and remember to use the tools when difficult times do approach. I have realised there will always be difficult times – it’s just how to deal with them. It’s now being able to trust myself and knowing how to pull myself out of it, when I am struggling.

Thank you for all the help and support. Both of the staff at Life in Community played their part in the  support I was given. My therapist helped me to deal with my childhood trauma and at times was abrupt and gave me some harsh truths but it was what was needed. The rest of the team and in particular the person who was working with me around my other issues gave comfort and softness that I needed based upon what I am going through now. So the support worked really well.

I now feel calmer, more in control, and more able to set boundaries without feeling like a bad person.
