Ukraine to UK – how volunteering helped

Why did you join the project?

“I had been removed to the UK from Ukraine because of the war. I felt confused and joined the Volunteering Plus project to gain experience and help me to get a job. I wanted to gain skills in catering and working in a kitchen and was given training and language support to improve my English.”

What has changed for you since we met?

“Things are better now. I have gained experience in a kitchen and support that helped me integrate into the community. I am now confident and happy. I have more understanding of England and I have made friends.”

What’s next for you?

“I am hoping to find a job in a kitchen.”
