Volunteer experience builds young persons confidence

Why did you join the project?

“I am doing work experience for a school. When I joined Volunteering Plus, I was scared and anxious. I wanted to try working with older people and to gain experience and learn new skills but I needed extra support and reminders because of my autism to help direct me.”

What has changed for you since we met?

“I am not scared now, I got more confident as the weeks went on, its very nice here and everyone is kind to me and understanding. I have learned some new skills like taking care of the elderly and helping them to play bingo, and I have enjoyed being here. I am feeling pretty confident, happy and grateful for the chance. I have learned new things, I have a bit more of an understanding about how it works, and the reminders I had from staff helped me to stay on track.”

What’s next for you?

“GCSE’S and college.”
