When we first met, I was unhealthy physically and nutritionally. I was experiencing low self-esteem and felt isolated. My mood was low, and I felt lethargic and unhealthy. After attending the Aman Group(s) I’ve gained increased knowledge around improving my health – physically and mentally. I attend more than 1 Aman Group each week, sometimes, up to 3 groups a week, depending on the weather and it’s local to where I live. I enjoy the walk in the park, organised by the Aman Group in better weather, as I love being outdoors. There is a fantastic project lead, who makes everyone feel welcome.
The group also provides gentle chair-based exercise, that’s just right for me. The group exercise session is easy to follow and means I don’t have to attend the gym as this is often mixed gender. I also attended the crime safety session. This has helped to improve my confidence, knowledge around crime safety and prevention, along with hate crime and how to report it.
Since joining the project I have made new friends and feel less isolated – it’s like joining a big family of like-minded women. I have increased self-esteem, and a greater sense of achievement and confidence. My health’s improved and I am losing weight slowly – I feel fitter. I also feel more informed, thanks to the workshops/informed sessions. It’s enabled me to get out the house more and be more independent. The Aman Groups have become a lifeline for me. I feel happy to ask the group member for help with any issues I face. The groups aim to address our needs and often ask us what knowledge, service we would like to gain. We ask and they provide. I will continue to attend these wonderful groups.
“Without these groups I would be stranded at home alone. They help us in so many ways.”
