Weekly walks providing benefits

Prior to coming on the wellbeing walks I was feeling lonely as I had lost my husband only recently. I didn’t have people to speak to. I attended a weekly walk in Warley Woods however I became anxious that I would trip or fall as some of the path there is uneven and there are tree roots exposed. My son saw a leaflet on the park noticeboard and told me about it and I thought that is perfect for me as the park surface is flat and tarmacked and it was very local to me.

I was feeling quite lonely and wanted to meet new people to talk with. I was also feeling nervous about joining a new walking group as I didn’t know anyone. I think that Age UK is a great charity. I look forward to coming to the walks every week and I have met some new people. I hope that this continues as I have really benefited from this.

“Everyone has been friendly, allowing me to feel welcomed which has greatly eased my anxiety.”

Delivery Partners

Wider determinants of health (WDH) are a range of social, environmental and economic factors which impact directly on the health (physical and mental) of the population. We have been working in partnership with the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) to identify how best to address some of the wider determinants of health, and how they impact on the wellbeing of our local residents. We are pleased to be delivering services which address some of these wider determinants of health and that help to support people who are in need.
