Facing eviction as a single parent

I was served a Section 21 eviction notice and was I was feeling very stressed and found it hard to have a positive outlook on my situation. I am a single parent to a child with additional needs and I work nights. I’ve been experiencing difficulties with my child’s father which has made me feel overwhelmed by my situation. I wanted support in dealing with the various trials that I have been facing including the eviction notice and updating my immigration status. I also wanted guidance with a DLA application that I submitted for my son to receive support for his additional needs. I had lots of important tasks I needed to do that kept building up on top of me but couldn’t find a way to prioritise them to get them done.

It can be isolating having to deal with all these things alone so having someone to talk through my next steps and options has been so valuable. I have also been able to access the coffee morning which has helped me to connect with other parents, some in a similar situation to my own. I have been able to apply and obtain settled status and am awaiting to hear regarding my son’s application. This is a relief. I am getting assistance with organising paperwork for my court date so that I can go to my hearing with confidence. I feel more aware of the process of evictions, this has really helped. I have had the confidence to seek help and support for my mental health and empowered to work alongside Black Country Women’s Aid. I have strategies to help me deal with things daily and I can look more positively towards my future. I feel better about my situation and more confident to speak to people who can help me. It is so helpful being able to share my concerns and offered practical advice on my situation.

I can take things one day at a time and not be overly anxious about the future, I now know what to expect and possible outcomes.

Delivery Partners

Wider determinants of health (WDH) are a range of social, environmental and economic factors which impact directly on the health (physical and mental) of the population. We have been working in partnership with the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) to identify how best to address some of the wider determinants of health, and how they impact on the wellbeing of our local residents. We are pleased to be delivering services which address some of these wider determinants of health and that help to support people who are in need.
