Getting active to boost wellbeing

I was isolated in the day when the family were at work. I didn’t exercise and was feeling in a low mood, unhealthy and lonely. I joined the WDH Sandwell service to socialise, be active, make new friends, and gain more independence. I was hoping to gain some local friendships and become more aware of services available to me.

Break thru has helped me to become more active without having to go to the Gym, and I have learnt fitness techniques I can do at home. However, I enjoy the social aspect of the groups and the instructor brings a lot of fun and laughter to the sessions. I have made new friends and also gained knowledge around nutrition, gentle exercise, and mindfulness.

Without the Aman group I would have continued to feel lonely, all though I have family I’m quite social. This would have impacted on my depression and isolation. I feel happy and I am looking forward to the Aman trip to the seaside with the ladies in July. I am keeping active and attending the groups.

“Now I’m out every day and feel healthy, and have fewer low moods.”

“My mom has always been very independent, active and social. She has a strong network of friends, and we spend quality time as a family. However, joining the Aman Group project has injected a fresher outlook and given her opportunities to be involved in events/activities which otherwise she would not have considered. It’s enhanced her network of friends and likeminded people and gives her the opportunity to share her experiences with her family. Participating in and attending the group and various events has naturally impacted her physical and mental wellbeing positively. The impact the Aman group has on these women, is fantastic! It improves not only their health – fitness but impacts their mental health too.”

Delivery Partners

Wider determinants of health (WDH) are a range of social, environmental and economic factors which impact directly on the health (physical and mental) of the population. We have been working in partnership with the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) to identify how best to address some of the wider determinants of health, and how they impact on the wellbeing of our local residents. We are pleased to be delivering services which address some of these wider determinants of health and that help to support people who are in need.
